The summer holidays… 6 whole weeks off school, so much can be done but we know it’s hard to fill up the time especially with the bad weather recently. We’ve picked out 2 DIY activities that you and your little ones can do at home and have so much fun!
DIY PLAY DOUGH
A great way to have fun and use some resources that you already have in the house.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tablespoon of cooking oil
- Food colouring
- Food extract (optional)
- Bowl
- Things to stick in the dough (lollipop sticks, straws, Pom poms)
- Things to make impressions with (Jar lids, cookie cutter or bottle caps)
WHAT TO DO
Add the food colouring to the water then mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
Add the water a bit at a time.
Mix until the ingredients become a dough and then knead it. Add extract if you would like a scent in your play dough.
Once you have the dough consistency your play dough is ready to be played with.
DIY INSTRUMENTS
A great way to re-use any household empties and encourage children to think about what they can make with the items they have.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Plastic bottles
- Rice/ Pasta
- Tissue boxes
- Cereal boxes
- Elastic bands
- Cellotape
- Kitchen roll tubes
WHAT TO DO
- Use plastic bottles to make great shakers when pasta or rice is added inside them.
- Take a tissue box and decorate it if you want to, stretch elastic bands around it and make a guitar! (attach with cellotape or glue so they’re safe and secure)
- Use a pringle tin as a shaker or a drum, these are great to decorate!
- The list is endless and all you have to do is use your imagination.
- The shakers are amazing for babies and toddlers and they can join in whilst making them too.
